- What is the difference between the 10 oz. Cotton Duck, 11 oz. Poly-Cotton, and the 8 oz. Performance Poly-Guard materials?
8 oz. Performance Poly-Guard is trailerable with proper installation and maintenance. It is also excellent as a storage cover. 8 oz. Performance Poly-Guard, our strongest material with the highest tear strength available, is 100% Marine-grade polyester and offers excellent fade resistance. Highly water repellent, highly mildew and UV resistant, excellent resistance to tearing. Won't stretch or shrink. It comes with a 5 year warranty that covers both manufacture and material. Available in Haze Gray, Caribbean Blue, Beige, Forest Green, Teal, Red, Yellow, Burgundy, Black, and Navy. This cover will "breathe".
11 oz. Poly-Cotton is trailerable with proper installation and maintenance. It is also excellent for storage applications. It is a heavy-duty, tightly woven blend of polyester and cotton with an applied Double water repellent, mildew resistant, UV resistant finish. It comes with a 3 year warranty that covers both manufacture and material. This cover comes in Haze Gray color only and will "breathe".
10 oz. Cotton Duck is our traditional storage only cover. It comes with a 1-year warranty that covers both manufacture and material. It has an applied water repellent, mildew resistant, UV resistant finish. It comes in the color Haze Gray only. This cover will "breathe".
All of our covers are MADE IN THE USA.
- What does it mean if a cover "breathes"?
This means that, if you put your boat up wet, the water can evaporate out of the boat and is not trapped inside. This is especially important if you live in a humid area.
- How do I care for my boat cover?
To keep your boat cover looking great much longer, make sure to support your cover using
boat cover support poles. Supporting your cover properly will prevent water from pooling on the cover. When trailering (or even just for storage), use a
tie down kit to prevent damage to your cover.
Never wash your boat cover in a machine. You can use a hose and a soft bristle brush for cleaning. Allow the cover to dry completely before folding for storage.
For more stubborn spots, you may use the following recipe:
1 cup white vinegar
1 cup Borax powder
2 cups warm water
Mix ingredients in a bucket or in a spray bottle. Apply to the spot of concern and leave on for 10 minutes. Rinse--allow to dry thoroughly before folding.
- Why do I need a support pole? A tie down kit?
A support pole is needed to prevent water or snow from pooling on your cover.
A tie down kit is mandatory for use with our travel covers. Even if you do not plan to travel with your BoatCoversDirect cover, the tie down kit can provide a convenient way to secure your boat cover.
- Will this cover include my outboard motor?
If your boat has an outboard motor, your cover will come with a motor pocket either sewn into the cover or as a separate cover.

- I only need the canvas to fit my Bimini top frame. Can this be purchased seperately?
No. There are many differences in frame construction within the industry. Over time, we have found that our canvases will not fit the frames designed by our competitors. Therefore, we only sell our Bimini tops as a complete package.
Why should you invest in one of our Bimini tops? Many times, it will cost as much to custom make a canvas to fit your frame as it would cost to purchase a complete top. Our Bimini tops are handmade using only the finest fabrics from precision made patterns.
- I am looking for a pontoon boat cover. How do yours fit?
Our pontoon boat covers fit snugly underneath the deck of the boat. They have shock cord in the hem (shock cord is like elastic). Our covers do not have snaps.
- How do I use a bimini top with my boat cover?
The bimini top should rest flat on the boat, and then the cover goes over both the Bimini top and the boat. Simply undo both sets of straps, lower the Bimini, and apply your boat cover!
- Will your cover include the open deck area of my pontoon boat?
Yes. Our cover covers the entire boat, and it fits snugly underneath the deck of the boat right above the pontoons.
- Am I responsible for duties/taxes/fees for my international order?
We are happy to ship your product internationally. However, it must be understood that Covers Direct is not responsible for paying your customs duties or taxes.
Covers Direct charges the freight as determined by your shipping method (UPS or otherwise). Please be aware that you are also responsible for any customs fees, taxes, or duties. Fees, taxes, or duties are not determined until the product crosses the border, and Covers Direct has no way of knowing the amount of fees, taxes, or duties that you will incur.
- What payment methods do you accept?
We want placing an order to be as easy as possible for you! That's why we gladly accept Visa, MasterCard, Discover, and American Express credit cards over the phone or online. We accept Paypal.
NEW! We also now offer the option to pay via Google Checkout!
If you do not wish to use any of these methods, we do accept checks or money orders via mail. Please call us at 1-866-626-8377 for more information on how and where to send a check/money order payment.
- My screws in my Bimini top frame feel rough to the touch, and I am worried that they can cause friction and wear holes in my canvas. What should I do to prevent this?
Our Bimini tops are made from tough, marine-grade material that is made to withstand abrasion. However, there are a few simple actions that, if taken during top assembly, will ensure you enjoy years of worry-free boating with your BoatCoversDirect.com Bimini top.
When installing your Bimini top, opt for a hand-held screwdriver rather than an electric drill.
If an electric drill is used, sometimes it is possible to "burr" a screw when you are assembling your top. This means that the head of the screw is very rough. When ignored, the screw has the potential to rub your canvas and cause problems for you.
If the screws have become "burred" out during your top assembly, you may fix the problem with one of two easy solutions. First, you may wish to file the "burr" to ensure that the edges of the screw are smooth. Second, you may apply duct tape to prevent the rough edges from coming into contact with your canvas.
